This past year has been all about balance and my mental health is so much better for it! I work 3.5 days teaching, with the occasional TOC day when I feel like I have the capacity to do it. This has given me more time to work on my consulting business and to develop projects that I am really proud of. Check out this blog about my favorite project of the year, our geo-inquiry project on Invasive Species in our school yard!
After last year's successful reading challenge, I set my reading goal for 2022 at 80 books, and managed 102. Most of the books are physical books from the library or from local bookstores. However, I did listen to more audio books this year as I road tripped around the province exploring. I also sleep so much better when I read at night instead of spend time on my devices or on watching television. This year, I am going for 80 books again. However, my real goal is to be okay with stopping books that I don't enjoy. It's hard to put something down, but I think it's a skill to be able to acknowledge when something isn't working for you and moving on.
I wanted to continue my physical heath challenges too after last year's failed PushUp Challenge but successful health challenge. Although I managed the same number of days being active, 160, I got an extra 50 hours of moving in. I also undertook a big challenge and attempted Kilimanjaro this summer. Although I ended up with altitude sickness and missed out on the summit, I was so happy that all the training and work I did leading up to the hike allowed me to do it without knee braces. As someone who is missing half a knee cap from a random ice skating injury, the journey was so much more important for me. Some of my other favorite physical challenges of 2022 were my first overnight hike to Garibaldi Lake, Scuba diving in Tanzania, a successful surf outing in Tofino, and getting back on a snowboard!
This year, I am just going to keep doing what I have been doing, as it seems to be working. I am also looking for new adventures and places to explore. If you have any suggestions, let me know!
