What progress have I made?
My resolution was to take the time to actually integrate the "good stuff" I learn from reserach, books and conferences into my practice. To make this happen, I decided to start blogging, hoping that it would allow me to reflect on my learning and find a way to integrate new knowledge into my practice.
So what progress have I made? Well, I started a blog (this one!) to make me more accountable to my resolution of reflecting on my practice. I have also started to reflect more on all aspects of my practice. Right now, I have an idea brewing about how to change the way we give workshops and deliver proD at our school board to make it more meaningful for teachers.
What have I struggles with along the way?
Time.
Blogging takes time. I have ideas in my head but getting them to come out has been a challenge. I am conscious of the time between posts, and feel like I should be writing more, but I also want to make sure the posts are well written and well thought out.
Change takes time. Reflecting on my practice is something I have always done. However, I have often found excuses and reasons not to change. Right now, time is that reason. Because of my job and team dynamics, it is not always easy to change what I am doing as it affects more than just me. I am realizing I am more of a risk taker than some and that I need to give others the time to explore my suggestions before the agree to go ahead with them.
What are the next steps?
I am going to continue to reflect on my learning, my practice, and how I can change the way I support teachers in my job.
I want to be more consistent with blogging and take the time to blog about research and books I have read that are affecting my practice.
Learn. Reflect. Blog
