I can build and sustain positive relationships with diverse people, including people from different generations.
Each year, we have a great group of people who come together to share around core competencies. What I find so fantastic is the variety of people who attend. Administrators, high school students, teacher candidates.Teachers who are new to the profession and teachers who have been in the profession for over 25 years. From the Lower Mainland or from Northern BC, from big schools, small schools, rural and inner cities. Everyone had something to say that is important and that pushes the group to think differently. The people that i have met have become an important part of my learning community, and I am happy that Twitter allows me to stay connected to them between events. Coming together at EdCampBCCC is a reunion of my edu-friends.
Next year, my hope is that more parents and younger students attend to help us to continue to push our thinking and to come at core competencies from all perspectives.
I can represent my learning, and tell how it connects to my experiences and efforts.
The conversations at the sessions are always so rich. Sometimes, I feel validated in what I do. Sometimes, I feel like I am falling behind being out of the classroom. There is something about being made to feel uncomfortable that challenges me. And so, although there are sometimes difficult conversations, those are the ones that help me become a better educator. What I love is that we have created a safe space where people can be honest with each other, ask their questions without fear of judgment, and offer advice or support. I really hope that this space continues to grow to include others, and that these difficult, sometimes uncomfortable conversations, continue throughout the year, either face to face or through our online presence.
I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. / I can celebrate my efforts and accomplishments.
For the couple days after EdCampBCCC, I was on a bit of a high! I feel like the event went really well. Janice and I did a great job at bringing people and sponsors together (despite the lack of coffee!). There are so many things we are still learning about putting on an event, but I think it was a fantastic event and that we earned that drink at Steveston Build with the #bcedchat crew after the EdCamp! Also, having that post event was a fantastic way to keep networking and continue to build our learning community. It was a great addition to this year's EdCampBCCC!
I am so happy about how it went, and am looking forward to next year.
