Sometimes, you need to take risks. Not just to push yourself, but so that others know that they are not alone. Tuesday night, I took the risk and shared about my struggles with anxiety and depression over the past 4 years.
The hardest part of my struggle was that for years, I had trouble admitting to myself that I was having issues. Once I was able to do that, then it was time to be honest with others. One of the reasons I decided to share my journey was because I often hear from others that I have the best job, the most fun, etc. from what they see on social media. But the truth is, my social media is carefully curated to share all my successes, to help me focus on the good, whether that be in my professional (Twitter) or my personal life (Instagram). It was time for me to open us so that others could understand that with all the great opportunities I have had, all the travel I do, that it hasn’t always been easy.
Thank you all of the people in my life who have been there for me thought the past couple years and without whom I could not have found my way. And a special thanks to Gabriel and Rose for encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and in front of a microphone.
Here is my talk.
All of the photos in this talk were taken by myself and were chosen to illustrate my journey.
